There’s no doubt that 2020 has been the year that flipped everything we once knew as ‘normal’ on its head, whilst changing the future of our world almost indefinitely. Covid-19 has had a massive impact on our personal and professional lives and has brought huge changes into the business world, some long-lasting.
I’m hearing rumblings of nervousness and uncertainty within the IFS market regarding upcoming projects and whether they will now be going ahead. However, it’s important to remember that the UK is still in a more positive position today than it was when the national lockdown eased. The term ‘work from home if you can’ is the same statement that allowed us to return to the office/workplace after the lockdown was eased.
Survival of the Fittest
In my opinion, Charles Darwin’s theory of ‘Survival of the Fittest’ has never been so relevant to companies and businesses. The talk amongst the IFS market seems to be focused on the negatives i.e. all the companies that have had to cut jobs and post-pone projects. No one seems to be thinking about the companies that have come out the other side fighting and thriving more than ever. So why are people so reluctant to make a move and join these companies that are hiring, starting new projects and moving things forward to a more certain future?
Job Security springs to mind…
What is Job Security?
Pre-lockdown many people were looking for a new IFS job opportunity and planning their next career move. People were not shy of their reasons for wanting progression and change. So why has the pandemic made people leave these concerns to bed and stay in their current roles? Many people are worried about job security and think that staying put might be the better option…
But is it?
I’m hearing lots of people in the IFS market say, “It’s not the right time to move”. They are inadvertently missing the key point that there are hundreds of companies out there that are thriving and moving their businesses forward with new projects and new hires. These individuals are therefore missing out on opportunities with growing businesses. Staying put in their role has brought them misery over the last year, with the impending gloom of a future enshrined in the reasons that once brought a desire to leave.
The market is moving, new IFS job roles are out there and now may be the time to make that move more than ever. I believe that deciding upon your own future, grasping opportunity and making it work for you is what will bring real job security.
