A large UK organisation requires a Payroll Application Tester to support a multi-phase payroll migration project covering 29 weekly and monthly payrolls for approximately 16,500 employees. The project includes payroll bureau services for senior staff and group-level entities.
Role Purpose:

Define testing scope and develop detailed test scenarios and catalogues

Document test scripts, including steps and expected outcomes

Execute tests across all key payroll system functions, including:

System roles and security
-
Organisational structure (units, posts, positions, inheritance)

Payroll elements and payment rates/tables
-
Absence and sickness schemes
-
Pension schemes and outputs
-
Payroll processing and calculations
-
Payslips and reporting
-
Payroll outputs (BACS, GL, Costing)

Record test outcomes and maintain the test log

Triage failed tests with the Payroll Manager, Test Manager, and Business Analyst

Log confirmed defects in the programme defect register, attaching evidence

Support defect analysis and undertake retesting to confirm resolutions

Investigate gross/net pay variances during parallel runs
Person Specification:

Experienced payroll professional, ideally a former Senior Payroll Administrator
-
Strong experience with MHR iTrent (multiple instances) and other payroll systems
-
Proven track record of payroll system testing within a full migration or implementation programme
-
Skilled in defining and documenting test scripts
-
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

Able to work independently
