Introduction
Often when I’m speaking to candidates or clients it is quite interesting to hear their motivations behind choosing Epicor over any other ERP that is out there on the market.
But what sets Epicor apart from the rest of the market and why more and more are companies making the business choice to move across into the world of Epicor?
This question is something which I will be exploring throughout this blog.
What Epicor says
Epicor bases their product on five key pillars which have been developed over 20 years. These key pillars consist of collaboration, mobility, simplicity, responsiveness and choice.
Mobility
Epicor’s ability to be a user both from their desk and also on their mobile is something which is a huge strength for the software. It allows users to be flexible with how they work and where they work, and web access capabilities mean real-time access to information across business dashboards. It integrates all points throughout the whole enterprise from customers to suppliers and partners, allowing it to be flexible.
Collaboration
ESE allows people to bring social collaboration tools to the workplace through using techniques established in social networks to allow customers to share information from the depths of the ERP. Commerce Connect also allows you to collaborate and communicate throughout the company, whether that be from one site or across multiple. Finally, it breaks down the walls between Epicor and Non-Epicor Users as it is user-friendly and allows collaboration across departments.
Choice
Epicor epitomises choice when it comes to their ERP. From premise or the cloud, to access from PC or mobile devise and finally customisation to make it fit the businesses needs. Epicor allows businesses to make choices to shape and tailor the ERP around the companies needs to make it work for them.
However, the extent that business takes this choice via customisation can often be the hindering factor – but that is a whole different blog in itself!
Simplicity
Epicor epitomises choice when it comes to their ERP. From premise or the cloud, to access from PC or mobile devise and finally customisation to make it fit the businesses needs. Epicor allows businesses to make choices to shape and tailor the ERP around the companies needs to make it work for them.
However, the extent that business takes this choice via customisation can often be the hindering factor – but that is a whole different blog in itself!
Epicor ERP prides itself in simplifying the user experience for everyone within the organisation whether that be user or non-user. It keeps its interface user-friendly so that casual users are able to leverage the power of the ERP.
Responsiveness
Probably one of the key parts to any ERP system within any business. The ability to respond quickly and change as the market and the wider business does. Epicor provides the ability to scale, deploy easily and also delivers faster time to value. Epicor also allows for quick updates and the ability to empower business with speed and efficiency.
From working closely with both businesses and users of Epicor software there is a number of different views relating to the software. However, a number of these are constant throughout and most of the professionals within the industry seem to share the same opinions.
The pricing – obviously this would differ from company to company as the pricing can range from a few thousand all the way up to half a million pounds. In comparison to other ERP systems such as IFS where large-scale installations can cost upwards of £1 million. Also, the subscription cost for Epicor starts at £175 per use, per month.
The user interface – as previously touched on by Epicor themselves, the user interface seems to be a reoccurring theme which is seen as a strength by many people I speak to in businesses which use Epicor – user or non-user. With Epicor you are able to get agile ERP functionality without the hassle of an overly complex interface.
The ability for customisation – companies especially within the manufacturing industry which a lot of my clients are based within see the customisation as one of the biggest strengths. The ability for a company to customise the software to fit the businesses needs is a major factor when choosing an ERP. However, one thing that businesses need to ensure is as the business evolves, so does the software. Whether that be through upgrades or constant revisiting of the customisations to make sure they are still relevant.
One contact of mine had a comment to say regarding Epicor where he stated;
“When I worked on my Epicor 10 implementation project I found the product very flexible and intuitive to deliver. I also worked with the Epicor team to customise certain aspects of the solution to fit the business needs and future requirements."
